NABIC Brings Safe Drinking Water to 800 Families in Gabura

NABIC Re-excavates “Late Ismail Ibrahim Memorial Drinking Water Pond” in Gabura to Resolve Acute Safe Water Crisis for 800 Coastal Families

GABURA, SATKHIRA — To combat severe freshwater scarcity caused by salinity and cyclone damage in remote coastal regions, the North American Bangladeshi Islamic Community (NABIC), in collaboration with local NGO Brotee, has re-excavated a crucial freshwater pond at Elbahar Gazi’s property in 9 No. Sora village under Gabura Union. Dedicated as the “Late Ismail Ibrahim Memorial Drinking Water Pond,” the newly expanded $110  ft/ 100 ft  facility features high embankments designed to withstand storm surges from future cyclones, ensuring a reliable freshwater source for nearly 800 families across three neighboring villages for the next decade. Equipped with a Pond Sand Filter (PSF) system to purify stored rainwater, this life-saving community infrastructure—inaugurated in the presence of local UP representatives, Brotee officials, land donors, and villagers—provides a sustainable alternative to brackish groundwater and long-distance water retrieval, significantly improving public health and climate resilience in the disaster-prone island region.
