NABIC Builds New Home for Homeless Family in Gabura
As part of its ongoing rehabilitation initiatives for vulnerable coastal communities, the North American Bangladeshi Islamic Community (NABIC) has built and handed over a durable semi-permanent home to a destitute family in Gabura Union, Satkhira.
For the past decade, Sabana Khatun, a resident of Sora Village (Ward 9), endured extreme hardship. Without a place of her own, she lived on her brother’s open veranda alongside her elderly mother and three children, including an ailing eldest son. Earning a meager living as a domestic helper and gathering fish fry from the local river, building a home was an impossible dream for her.
Stepping forward through its Child Protection Project, NABIC constructed the new home for the family at a cost of BDT 120,000, bringing an end to their ten-year struggle. Notably, Sabana’s young daughter, Tahiya, has been supported under NABIC’s Child Sponsorship Program for the past six years, receiving continuous education, healthcare, and nutritional assistance.
Overjoyed to finally receive a secure and dignified living space, Sabana and her family expressed heartfelt gratitude to NABIC for transforming their lives.
NABIC remains dedicated to providing sustainable shelter, safety, and long-term dignity to marginalized children and families across climate-vulnerable coastal regions.
