Mohammad Ataul Karim, Chair, Ph.D.
Dr. Mohammad Karim is an Electrical Engineer and Scientist. He is currently the Provost and Executive vice-chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, MA. His major research interests focus on elector-optical systems, optical computing, and pattern recognition. He is a member of NABIC’s Board of Regents since 2012. He served as President of NABIC’s Board of Directors in the past In the past he served in the boards of Virginia Coalition for Community and Justice; the Center for Christian, Jewish, and Muslim understanding in New York, Dayton Islamic School, Inc, Ohio; Islamic Council of Ohio, Islamic Education Foundation of Knoxville, TN. He also participated in the National Conference of Christians and Jews in Ohio in the past and in Avicenna Academy in the Bronx.
Abu Bakar Ahmed, MPH, Ph.D.
Dr. Abu Bakar Ahmed received his MPH and Ph.D. in Environmental Health from the University of Minnesota. Since 1988. He worked as a radiation safety professional with a federally-funded research laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN from which he retired in 2017. Dr. Ahmed is the founding president (1991-94) of NABIC. In the past, he served as Executive Director of NABIC (1995-2011) of NABIC, and Chairperson of Board of Regents of NABIC (2011 –2017). Previously he served as Vice President (1991-93) of the Muslim Community of Knoxville and as Secretary (1998-2009) of the Islamic Education Foundation of Knoxville.
Shakil Ahmed, Ph.D.
Dr. Shakil Ahmed is the founder of Princeton Alpha Management LP, an Investment Adviser, Princeton, New Jersey. His company provides quantitative trading strategies for Private Funds. Dr. Ahmed has an MS, MPH, and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Yale University (1994). His undergraduate degree was in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley Dr. Ahmed started his career at Morgan Stanley, where he worked in Process Driven Trading (PDT), a group which he ran from early 1999 to 2006. He served as a Senior Advisor to Morgan Stanley, until joining Citibank in early 2008. In the past, Dr. Ahmed served as the Global Head of Market Making of Citibank also was in the Executive Committee of the Equities Division. At Citibank, Dr. Ahmed also served as the Global Head of Quantitative Strategies and in the management committee of Citi Alternative Investments. Dr. Ahmed grew up in Vienna, Austria, where he attended the Vienna International School
A Alim Khandekar, MD
Dr. A Alim Khandekar was born in British India, grew up in Dhaka, Bangladesh and moved to the USA in 1970. He received his medical degree from Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka in 1970. He is a Board-certified General, Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgeon and is currently practicing in Memphis Tenn. He is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgery, American College of Surgery. Dr. Khandekar has served as President of NABIC’s Board of Directors and has been a member of the Board of Regents since 2012. Currently, Dr.Khandekar is a resident of the Muslim Society of Memphis. He has actively involved in interfaith activities with local community services.
Sadrul Ula, Ph. D
Dr. Ula is the Managing Director of Winston Chung Global Energy Center, a research center at the University of California – Riverside, Bourns College of Engineering. He is also a Research Faculty at the College of Engineering – Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT). Dr.l Ula received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom. He served as NABIC’s president between 2005 and 2008. In 187 he was awarded the Outstanding Branch Counselor Award by the Technical Activities Board and the U.S. Activities Board of IEEE.
Muhammad K Zaman, MD
Professor Muhammad Zaman is currently the Chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine division of VA Medical Center and the University of Tennessee, Memphis. Dr. Zaman served as President of NABIC in 2011-14. He is also a member of boards of Muslim Society of Memphis, Pleasant View Islamic School, and Board of Trustees of the Memphis Islamic Center and Memphis Muslim Medical Clinic.
Rashid Nizam, MD,
Dr. Nizam is an Ophthalmologist practicing in Moberly, MO. He completed residency training at Brown University and fellowship training at the University of Missouri. He received Physician of the Year award (2003), National Leadership Award (2003), Service Award (2002), Missouri Fogerty Fellowship Award, Brown University School of Medicine, Providence, Rhode Island (1996), Momose Afro Asian Scholarship, an award from Institute of Clinical Ophthalmology, Kiryu, Japan (1989), Achievement Award, Sylhet MAG Osmany Medical School Alumni Association of North America (2012). Dr. Nizam is currently chairman of the ISNA founders Committee. He served as NABIC president twice between 2008 and 2014 and served as member ISNA Majlis Shura in the past.
Col (Rtd.) AM Mahbubur Rahman, a retired veteran of the Bangladesh Army. Currently, he is a business owner in Astoria, NY. Col. He has served as a member of NABIC’s Board of Directors fr manu times as president of NABIC from 2019 to 2020. He has been organizing many events in New York and took an active part in the Annual Conventions Organizing Committee in 2004, 2009, 2014, 2015 and 2023. Mr. Rahman is currently a member of the Board of Trustees, Astoria Islamic Center, Inc. New York.
